The long awaited social housing green paper hit our desks during the summer recess and is described as a “new deal for social housing” which sets out a “vision which values and respects the voices of residents, with landlords treating them with decency and respect, backed up with clear consequences when they do not”. The Green Paper is underpinned by five principles:

• a safe and decent home which is fundamental to a sense of security and our ability to get on in life;
• improving and speeding up how complaints are resolved;
• empowering residents and ensuring their voices are heard so that landlords are held to account;
• tackling stigma and celebrating thriving communities, challenging the stereotypes that exist about residents and their communities; and
• building the social homes that we need and ensuring that those homes can act as a springboard to home ownership.

Hear from each of our panellists on their opinion of the Green Paper, what it means for the sector and any challenges it presents, in particularly to the East Midlands Region. Delegates will then have the opportunity to participate in a Q&A session with the panellists.

Panellists include:
Melanie Rees, head of policy, Chartered Institute of Housing
Jenny Osbourne,  chief executive,  TPAS
Holly Dagnall, director of homes and wellbeing, Nottingham Community Housing Association
To Be Confirmed, Newark & Sherwood Homes

Benefits of attending

Hear from Melanie Rees, Head of Policy for CIH, as to what this means for the sector, whether it delivers against CIH’s Rethinking social housing research recommendations, and how we can work together to provide  more homes and recommit to our relationship with residents

We are also very pleased to welcome Anna Furlong, Head of Regulatory Framework. Anna will set out the Regulator’s perspective on the Social Housing Green Paper and is keen to hear your views on the questions the Government has raised about the future of regulation.

Whilst at the event take the opportunity to chat with your CIH representatives about how membership is, and can support you as a housing professional. How you can get the most from your professional membership and hear about some of the great things we have coming up in the region and nationally for members.

If you’re not a member already why not talk to us about the advantages of becoming a member and joining our professional housing community.
