CIH responds to HCLG’s report on social housing

Today (27 July 2020), the Housing, Communities and Local Government Committee (HCLG) Select Committee released a new report, outlining that 90,000 new social homes will be needed every year to meet the country’s housing needs and ensure the overall target of 300,000 new homes is met.

CIH director of policy and external affairs, James Prestwich said:

“We’re extremely pleased to see the Select Committee’s support for investment in new social housing. This echoes our joint call for at least 145,000 new affordable homes each year over the next 10 years, 90,000 of which need to be built for social rent.

The Homes at the Heart campaign is calling on government to invest in new social rented homes to kick-start the economy post-COVID - the Chancellor’s autumn spending review is an ideal opportunity to act on the Select Committee’s findings.”
